Spiders We Treat in Menifee
Cellar Spiders
Cellar spiders usually hide in the basement of homes. This spider is a light tan with a small body about a quarter of an inch long and thin, delicate legs. Known as the “daddy longlegs” in California, it rarely bites, and its short fangs and weak venom pose little threat. While harmless, these spiders create messy webs that can be a hassle.
Orb Weaver Spiders
Orb weavers are some of the most common spiders in the Temecula area. They are about 1–3 quarters of an inch long. These arachnids come in various colors, but are commonly grey or reddish-brown. Orb weavers will bite if threatened, but it only feels like a bee sting. Even worse, the females can lay over 2,500 eggs at a time. These eggs usually hatch in the spring, so dealing with orb weaver infestations can help prevent a future issue.
Yellow Sac Spiders
Yellow sac spiders are pale yellow and have bodies about a quarter of an inch in length (similar to a brown recluse). They can climb slick surfaces to create webs on ceilings where walls meet. Yellow sac spiders bite like a bee sting, but the small red bumps may become itchy and more painful a few hours later. Nausea or vomiting may occur after being bitten by these spiders, but they are not deadly.
Wolf Spiders
Wolf spiders are hairy arachnids that mostly measure half an inch to two inches long. Wolf spiders don’t build webs to catch their prey like many other spiders. Instead, they rely on their speed and sharp reflexes to hunt insects directly. While they might bite if they feel threatened, their bites aren’t dangerous to humans and usually cause only mild irritation or itching.
Black Widow Spiders
Black widow spiders have a distinct red hourglass marking on their abdomen and typically grow to about half an inch long. They prefer dark, dry places like woodpiles, corners, or rodent burrows. While their venom is potent, fatalities from bites are less than 0.3% of cases in the U.S., resulting in death. Still, it’s essential to be cautious around these spiders.
